This series was created for wedding filmmaker Michael Matizhenko, whose work is deeply influenced by Kodak film aesthetics and the visual world of Wes Anderson. The illustrations were based on stills from love-story films and used as custom video covers.
We drew initial inspiration from the striking black-and-white work of Javi Aznarez (notably known for The French Dispatch).
However, the final outcome evolved through the demands of the genre and the influence of my personal drawing language.
With full permission to reinterpret the original footage, I approached the compositions playfully—adjusting perspective, proportions, and negative space. The process involved developing a confident linear structure before adding texture and tone.
The core aim was to strike a careful balance: between stylization and recognizability, simplicity and nuance.
